Sustainability and Solidarity: Nicro and the “Gift yourself a smile” Initiative

At Nicro, innovation doesn’t simply mean designing and manufacturing high-tech nickel-based steel alloy products. For Nicro, innovation also represents a tangible commitment to sustainability in all its forms.

This commitment includes not only reducing environmental impact, as reflected in our sustainability report, but also improving the well-being of the communities in which we operate. This is the spirit behind our participation in the charity initiative “Gift Yourself a Smile”, promoted by Confindustria Bergamo—a project aimed at bringing joy to children and families in need.

For us, this is yet another opportunity to demonstrate that social responsibility is not just a value but a daily practice.

The Importance of Social Sustainability at Nicro

At Nicro, sustainability lies at the core of our corporate vision. Each year, we prepare a sustainability report that allows us to monitor and communicate our commitment to responsible growth, balancing economic performance with environmental protection and social progress.

Our environmental efforts are evident in initiatives such as optimizing production processes (e.g., installing sensors to monitor energy consumption in high-use machinery), sourcing renewable energy (via a photovoltaic system installed on the roofs of our production facilities), and minimizing waste (through strict recycling policies to fully recover production scraps, from sheets to repaired items). However, sustainability is not limited to ecological considerations. For us, being sustainable also means creating value for our employees and the communities around us. Companies must play an active role in building a better society, contributing not just through their products but also through targeted actions that promote collective well-being.

This is why we believe initiatives like “Gift Yourself a Smile” represent a natural continuation of our commitment.

“Gift Yourself a Smile”: A Project to Make a Difference

Promoted by the Young Entrepreneurs Group of Confindustria Bergamo, “Gift Yourself a Smile” is a charitable initiative aimed at collecting new or gently used toys (in good condition) to be donated to children in need through already active local charities.

This year, together with the other companies in the network, Soliveri, TAV VACUUM FURNACES and TAVENGINEERING, we participated in this wonderful project for the first time.

Participating companies organized collections at their offices, encouraging employees and collaborators to contribute generously. The toys were then delivered to a centralized collection point, kindly made available by Car.Art Srl. Categories of toys collected included:

• Board games, puzzles, and construction sets.
• Books, creative materials, and toy musical instruments.
• Dolls, plush toys, and early childhood toys.
• Vehicles, electronic toys, and action figures.

Participating in this project means bringing moments of happiness to less fortunate children and offering a tangible contribution to building a more supportive community.

Social sustainability, after all, is a goal that requires everyone’s effort. Initiatives like “Gift Yourself a Smile” remind us that even small gestures can lead to significant changes, improving the lives of those who need it most. Because only by working together we can truly make a difference!
